Default slave cylinder problems

I have a 2003 250 sx just got it and the clutch does not disengauge at all. i pulled the slave cylinder off the bike and the piston is moving but leaking some fluid. but my main concern is there is a small ball in the middle of the piston and it is pushed way down into the piston. yet i can shake the piston and get it to stick out of the face of the piston. My question is, is that ball supossed to move or is that was actually pushing on the push rod inside the case? Also read on here that starting in 2003 there should be a gasket between the slave and the case itself. so i guess i will need one of that also?

Any advise or help will be great!

It's an o-ring on your bike #67.

Is that "ball" part on this diagram?

the ball is in the piston in the slave cylinder. so it is in the face of #66 the part that pushes on the rod that goes through the case. not sure if that ball is supossed to move or not.

Take a look at this other image of the same clutch parts.

It appears as if the ball is supposed to be at end of the piston
between the rod and the slave cylinder.

Yes. but the ball in my piston falls down into the piston it doesn't stay out i was thinking that everything is working correctly but the rod isn't moving far enough because that ball is set down in the piston.
