2001-2004 tank on a 2000 250sx?

Hey all! I accidentally ordered new plastics and graphics for a 2001 250sx, which I thought I had, and it turns out it's a 2000. It'd be a huge pain in the butt to do a return (I live in kuwait, ordered from the states, shipping and customs could amount to 1/2 of purchase price).
The only place the fit seems to be a real problem is on the tank, where the radiator shrouds attach. It may be easier to get my hands on a 2001 tank than the 2000 graphics and plastics. So, I started comparing pictures and such and it looks to be a decent match, but of course pics don't tell the whole story.

Have any of you tried a 2001-2004 tank on a 2000?
