Red face exc125 to sx125

hello everybody

i have recently bought an '04 exc 125.my thing is motocross and i thought that the exc would not have many differences from the sx model.i've changed my suspensions for motocross but my bike still is not for mx jumps.
i really need help about what changes i need to do to tranform my bike into a true mx bike.i must ,for sure, do something with my torque.it opens very high.after that i probably need to change rims?!
if someone, special in this, can help me i'd be very grateful

Antony from Greece

When you say the torque opens up very high, can you explain what you are feeling in the power?

Also, what sprocket combo are you running?

Do you have the stock exhaust or aftermarket?

The EXC does run a different rear wheel, so eventually you might want to buy a 19" rear to fit the more MX specific tires.

i must have the rpm at the maximum to feel the "kick" of the power.when the rpm is low or middle it is not so strong.
i have a 13/50 combination at my sprocket combo and i have and full exhaust straight from the sx 125.I will change my wheel ,but to you think that i need something more for motocross use?
thanks for the interest!

The EXC has a much heavier flywheel, different jetting and I wouldn't doubt the power valve is also setup differently. I don't like the 125SX stock exhaust, it really makes the bike "peaky" and it might make your bike feel totally different because it is a different exhaust. You might want to try and put the exc exhaust back on it and run it like that to see if the peakiness goes away. Also, 13/50 sprocket doesn't sound right, we usually run 14/50 or even 15/50 on the motocross bikes.

The only concern I have about the rear wheel is just the tire selection. Motocross tires tend to be a bit softer and not have all that sidewall. I have not ridden a trail bike on the MX track before, but I have ridden plenty of MX bikes on the trails.

I would first fix the motor related issues, then at least try to ride the thing and if you still have problems, then change out the rear wheel and throw a motocross tire on it.
