I am hoping to find individuals who have tried to access the OBD-2 diagnostic port on the 2014 KTM 1190R.
From what I have been able to glean from the various model wiring diagrams, KTM has evolved from a simple K Line bus on the 990, to a system using both the K Line and CAN-H, CAN-L on the 1190Rc8r, and now using only the CAN-H, CAN-L lines for the 1190 Adventure. Dropping the K Line means the adapter recommended for KTM on the TuneECU and LonElec web pages will no longer work for the 1190 Adventure. I contacted LonElec, and they indicated they were aware of the new wiring, but were waiting for a demand from TuneECU users before producing the proper adapter. Any experience with this out there in KTM-Land?
For what it is worth, my preliminary understanding of the Diagnostic port wiring and mapping to the OBD-2 system is that the KTM pins are:
990 Adventure:
1 (orange) maps to OBD-2 16 +12V
4 (light blue) maps to OBD-2 7 K Line
6 (brown) maps to OBD-2 4 ground
The 1190Rc8r uses the same configuration for pins 1, 4, and 6, and adds pins 2 and 3 for the CAN protocol:
1 (orange) maps to OBD-2 16 +12V
2 (black/blue) maps to OBD-2 6 CAN-H
3 (white/blue) maps to OBD-2 14 CAN-L
4 (light blue) maps to OBD-2 7 K-Line
5 blank
6 (brown) maps to OBD-2 4 ground
On the 1190 Adventure, the color of the pin 1 wire has changed, and pin 4 is now blank. This is my best guess (no warranty expressed or implied):
1 (green/red) maps to OBD-2 16 +12V
2 (black/blue) maps to OBD-2 6 CAN-H
3 (white/blue) maps to OBD-2 14 CAN-L
4 blank
5 blank
6 (brown) maps to OBD-2 4 ground
So the old 3-wire OBD-2 adapter would still work on the 1190Rc8r to read the K Line, but will connect to a blank wire-4 on the 1190R Adventure.
Let me know if anyone out there successfully makes an adapter, and accessed the OBD-2 port.
