Hi Paul, the kit works with all models from 18 to 23. I Would have to check if 2017 works too. I sent you a DM
Hi, to do the conversion you need, obviously, a KTM 1290 17 SD, or SD GT, front rim, SD 1290 rotors, original SAS rotors are 6 bolts rotors and rim is 5 bolts, front fender (you can use original but it's quite big for the new tyre) from a 1290 SD or KTM 990 SMT.

Once you have this parts, you need two 5mm rotor spacers, two 2 mm axe spacers and a new ABS tone ring with different number of spaces cause you can change tyre diameter in your ECU

A friend of mine is a engineer who have access to machinist so I decide to ask him to help me and we made a complete kit, if you are interested please, send me a DM View attachment 111837
HI @alasoa
Can you tell me how much it cost to go from 19 to 17? What is your kit about? Thanks in advance!!

thank you
the front is pretty easy as alasoa can deliver a kit.
i made a new bushing anyway as i like it to be one solid part.
the rear is a different story with lots off problems, the biggest are the mounting of the shock and the chain allignment.
It looks a strait fit but it isnt, the front of the swingarm is thicker so the sprocket doesnt fit. After i made it fit the chain doesnt align. Then i made the chain align and the clutchcilinder doesnt fit anymore....
Here you can read everything, no charge ;-)

Any news on having a kit to fit a 17x5.5 rear wheel? By the way, does a 180/55 tyre work well on the stock rear rim? Thanks. When I get my sas I will be buying the front wheel kit, but would like if it's possible to fit 180/55 without any issues on the stock rear rim and if there are any developments on a kit for a 17x5.5 rear rim. Thanks!

Man, it sure seems like it would be a LOT easier and a LOT cheaper to just start with a Super Duke GT and make it more comfortable (if that's what you need), than all this changing of wheels and chassis geometry.

Either bike needs a better seat than stock, so that's a wash. Put a different handlebar and some lower pegs on the GT and there you go. A bigger wind screen, if you need that. And done.

And with the GT, have 14 more HP and 40 # less weight. And factory chassis geometry and suspension which is better for real sport riding.

My 1290 Super Adventure was awesome. But, my GT is just as comfy to me, for long days. Well, I say that. I rode 1000 miles on the GT over this past 3-day weekend and was just as comfy as on my old SA. But, I don't consider any of that really a long day. A little over 400 to get home yesterday was the longest. But I digress.

Changing my SA to a 17" front wheel and futzing with fork height was never going to make it as competent in the twisties as my GT is. Suspension has too much travel and not the best damping, and the bike has less power and more weight.

The ONLY thing the SA offers as an advantage over a GT is being able to take it offroad. I took my SA offroad, which is why I had an SA in the first place. Changing it to a 17" front completely negates that advantage. In which case, may as well have the better bike for strictly on-road.

For having had a GT, the ride is less comfy due to shorter suspension travel. Ergos are way more sportier even with mods, not the supermoto riding position like the SA.
More fuel range on the SA, more torque down low. And 2 up riding is also way much better.
If even KTM is working on a 1290 SMT, I guess also them find the 17" wheel on the SA usefull ?

Adding some additional info, there is a significative weight difference between a 19 SAS front rim and a 17

-2,1 kg in a well calibrated scale.

Of course in a good hands a modern bike like the SAS with a 19 front rim will keep the pace of a super sport but under my point of view ergonomics is the key.

I wanted a 100% oriented tarmac bike and after few thousands km with the 17 rim I think the improvement in the bike it has been huge. Bikes handles better, less inertial weight an lowering 2,5 cm helps, you can install almost any tyre in the market and you can ride very long distances at very fast pace in a very comfortable position. When Ducati tried to win Peaks Peak front rim choose was obvious a 17 rim

After all there is not so much logic, always under my point of view, to go off road with a 260 kg bike...
