Fark me, that's a long way on a 390.😯
Poor little thing. Probably valve bouncing all the way.
What a ride report. Far out, almost makes one feel jealous they wasn't there.....apart from the torrential rain bit, that would've sucked balls.
Good to see you got on an adventure bike @AusPete . Might trade the Gt on one??
Hope you said g'day to Josh for me, hang on I can do that here.
G'day @JoshKTM.
Good on you blokes. When I get some points back, hall your a-rses up here.
I think the 390 Duke would be a perfect bike for you over the next 3 years mate. It takes some serious commitment to get it to licence shredding velocity, but does go around corners .. like a rat up a drainpipe. I have no knowledge of whether it can hoist the front wheel up or not.

It'll hoist, just lean back.
What was it's fuel range like? Probably not a drama with the pick of 3 mobile tankers to siphon from.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:....... I was riding back from my "Wednesday in God's Country" - (that's Byron Bay/Lennox Heads/Bangalow to you non SEQ people)..... where there is blue sky, sand and surf, and lots of wonderful people scenery ;) .........

errr, oh yeah, I was riding back from....... oh ok, done that bit,........ well I was heading for the QLD border to buy fuel because NSW was $1.60 odd/ltr for 95 while QLD was still fairly cheap at $1.40odd/ltr....... my DTE was telling me 'no worries mate', you've just dropped from 50kms to 30kms of fuel and the next servo was only 18kms away and the border was just under 30kms..... should make it... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:....... then it dropped to zero while I was still looking at it...... WTF.....it's too hot to push a bike today...... crikey:eek:..... 18kms it is!

I backed off from the 110kph speed limit (camera's everywhere today and lots of blue & reds taking collections by the road side), to 100 just to be sure. I knew the GT had 1.5 ltrs left when the DTE says nil....... maybe the slight incline in the road messed with the float level......but it made me sweat a bit more than usual thinking I still had 18kms to travel with just enough stale old pre Xmas fuel :censored:........

But the range on that tankfull was still over 380kms even with the stale fuel being good for only 17k/ltr economy - once I put some fresh 95 in, it was back to 20k/ltr in the strictly supervised mid week highway speed zones.

That ride was my first one this year, and 1st with the Booster Plug module!

Works fine.... seems smoother on gear changes and has plenty of getup & go when asked. I didn't fill the tank 100% as I wanted to get home with low fuel, so I could easily take the tank off again to install the de-cat pipe and SAS dongle on the weekend (hopefully all arrive by Friday).

So much fun in the sun...... I'll go and lay down now...... it was 38C on the motorway at Loganlea-Springwood at lunchtime....... (n)...... hotter-thn-hell I reckon.

There is actually a dog walking business called this in Sydney (irrelevant trivia)

@DaveAu "god's country" is actually the Sutherland Shire, NSW.

I grew up there and we spent last week down there. Didn't ride cause Jim's butt is still traumatized from the 690 SMC seat

Ah all good mate, I wouldn't have been allowed to go anyway.
Bikes fine, just a little bruised after it was violated up the rear by a car.
Biggest issue is the 1 point I hold now from not long after I dispatched from you guys after our late November trip.

1 more demerit point to a total of 13 eh....... then the man in the silly wig asks 'show cause why you should keep your licence'.

Time to practice some soothing yoga (or something)..... I think you have to be a goodie for a year or so to loose those nasty demerits...... on my last ride the law was everywhere, marked, unmarked, cameras, bikes..... I just concentrated on trying to be spot on the speed limit and outsmart the bone heads in cars. Gave me plenty to concentrate on.

Only thing I did wrong was not drink enough water on the way home in 38c, so I have a UTI to deal with, but that is clearing up with the help of prescription drugs..... fk it's humid again!...... I'm not riding in this heat again, too much dehydration under a mesh jacket......

I saw a doco last week - did you know those airconditioned michelin man space suits astronauts wear cost $12 million EACH . But they can handle the +250deg sunny side and -250deg shaded side when on a space walk...... far out, that's extreme! No good for motorcycling.... big thick gloves/boots.....and a bit slow to get out of at a :coffee: stop;).

Hang in there DW.... I bet that poor bike rider recently killed in Townsville is wishing he had followed the road rules and, either stopped at the red light (if the eye witness was telling the truth), or slowed down to avoid the turning car (if they were at fault... police are looking at the traffic camera recording).

Develop a 6th sense grasshopper..... the hairs on the back of my neck itch when big brother is likely to be watching.

3 years now @DaveAu. The quantity of points lost in one fine replenish 3 years after the date of that fine.
Silly thing is I have never been done for ridiculous speeds. Always been less than 20 klicks over. Just have been done many times in the last 3 years.
6 months time I get the first 3 lost back, then November I get another 3 back. That should do for a while, crank it back up after then.

Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival: Jan 25th 2020. Lamb and Potato? Nothing Irish here.....

So I got an invite to join @JoshKTM and his regular riding mates, mentors and fellow KTM tragics, Viviana and Michael, on a long weekend ride. Viviana wrings the neck of a 390 Duke and Michael has a well sorted 1290 SAR. Ride mate Nick also joined us in Guyra and stayed with us till Narrabri. If we needed an excuse it was to visit the Lamb and Potato Festival, running in Guyra since 1987, visit the Warrambungles and burn some fuel and tyres. Good enough for me.

Day 1: Home to Armidale:
A quick (just) pre dawn exodus from Casa Bella got me to Sphinx Rock Cafe, between Murwillimbah and Kyogle, in time to meet the other rebrobates and ingest a tasty breakfast. Onwards to Kyogle and Casino. Westward from Casino towards Tenterfield saw the weather gods having a stromp. Lightning, thunder, torrential rain and cattle knee deep in water in roadside paddocks. This was deep in drought and it was never going to rain again, according to the media in late November when I was through last time with @JoshKTM @DW and @Sungod Racing The bushfire ravaged sections are in full regrowth and the area around Tenterfield looks like I think Ireland would look - the full Emerald Green experience. Tenterfield to Guyra was dry .... but we had barely turned off engines when the storm we rode through an hour earlier hit us again. Shelter was the order of the day before the famed Lamb and Potato could be consumed. Several of us went back for seconds. We stayed overnight at Armidale and mostly dried out ride gear. The 40 kms between Guyra and Armidale reminded me of the Highlands Highway between Lae and Mount Hagen in the PNG highlands there was so much water crossing the highway.

Day 2: Armidale to Narrabri via Warrambungles.
No rain today, but quite a few closed roads from the storms of yesterday. A car and caravan washed off a causeway highlighted the impact of flowing water. After breakfast at the Golden Guitar cafe in Tamworth and a somewhat messy hour sorting what roads were open and would connect we headed to Coonabarabran and the Warrambungles National Park. The very informative Visitors Information Center was open, the Observatory wasn't. The scenery is amazing and a very short 35 km diversion from the snoozefest Newell Highway. Well worth the visit for both the scenery and the ride to the Info Center.

Viviana, Michael, Nick and Josh had a diversion in The Pilliga between Coonabarabran and Narrabri and walked to The Sandstone Cave, an Indiginous site of cultural significance. I baled due to 35 degreeC temps and leather ride gear.... and because I am a sook. I headed staright to the Crossroads Hotel for shower and beer.

Day 3: Narrabri to home via Copeton Dam, Roadkill Road, Heifer Creek #1 - 4, Gregors Creek Road.
For those who think, or would like to make a wager, that there is no interesting way to get from Narrabri to Stanthorpe you better cough up right now. I had an enlightening morning in many ways. The Killarney Gap Road between Narrabri and Bingara, which connects to the Copeton Dam Road from Bingara to Inverell is a gem. Technical in places (tight and twisty with bumps), fast and open in others it is a ride worth the pain of getting to Narrabri. Save the small kangaroo which jumped into the path of Michael's 1290SAR and was summarily dispatched by the "might has right" rule of physics, the only issue was me being stung in the nack by a bee. The bee died, I didn't - short story really.

I also had a squirt on the 1290 SAR and think I was more impressed with it than Michael was with the GT. Man it sucks up bumps .. the difference between @Sungod Racing RC8 and my SDGT is about the same gap between the GT and the SAR in terms of compliance and all day comfort. It's hard to envisage a better bike for give and take country goat tracks we use to avoid the constabulary on a double demerit licence shredder weekend. I spent the 30 minutes or so constantly amazed that I was going 20 or 30 km/h faster than I estimated.

I arrived home in time for a swim and an adult beverage in the pool. All is good with the world.... other than one question. Why does the entire population of SE Queensland get on the roads for a single extra day? Do yourselves a favour and stay home next time. You will be way less stressed and cause me way less aggravation.

A big thanks to @JoshKTM and Viviana for use of their photos.

Yay! Finally joined and trying to get the hang of this forum. Good ride report and love the photos ;) lol

G'day @JoshKTM.
Good on you blokes. When I get some points back, hall your a-rses up here.
Already planning next 2 other trips :) ...

My 390 has super seeded my expectations Ann’s I’m sure @JoshKTM can attest to this. But it’s done some maaaany kms, can take a beating and although you do have to wring it’s neck a little passing B-doubles and sprinting it up hills, it holds its own touring, at $1.20-$1.30\hr constant fully loaded. :)

Nice to be finally able to welcome you to the forum @Valvoline I think I can safely say that you fit the 390 way better than @JoshKTM would have when he had his. Hell, he makes the SDGT look like a Grom ....

Come back often and continue the Valvoline and her Lawnmower thread. I'll continue taking pics of dams if you can find more Valvoline signs.

The Edit tag is in the screen behind the site navigation symbol (3 vertical dots, top right of your post). It has a time window of 15 minutes from making the post for edits from memory.

I reckon he'd have muscle in his sh-t that boy.

Welcome @Valvoline
If you keep having issues with editing, you can ask me or @AusPete to change a post for you.
Look forward to catching up and watching you ring the tits off that 390.

Welcome aboard Valvoline.

Hey, @AusPete and @ DW - why am I being asked to enable 'push notifications' every time I log on? I've clicked on the tab and have received the confirmation that they were enabled (whatever the heck they are), but I keep getting the request to enable....... got it again now........

:( grumpy old fart I know.

PS The edit tab is on the three dots at the top right of the post..... but I think it stays active for longer than 15mins.... I've spotted typo's or not so well written phrases on my posts a day or so later and fixed them up....... funny that, you think you've written something well, then 48 hrs later you realize 'OMG' that can be taken in an unintended way......:eek:

From one old fart to another I had to do some reading to find out about this, and the best I can explain is that enabling push notifications allows the app to send a message or messages to your mobile device even if you are not using the app at the time. For the receiver it means you get updates like news or weather services without having to look at your news app, or in this case get updates on the threads you have been active in without having to open the app. Now that I know how it works I will be reviewing my notifications strategy.

The App developers consider it a great marketing tool.

You should have an option to not ask you again, make sure you use it.

That's what I thought but unless I'm missing something, I can't see it..... and I went into my settings and deleted all the push options....... PITA, I just have to keep clicking on 'not now'...... :(
