The IAT sensor can be fooled by a Booster Plug into telling the ECU that it's somewhat colder out than it actually is, which causes an 8% across-the-board enrichment. O2 sensors stay in place. They will actually negate the effect of any add-on and return the closed-loop map to original parameters.
The reason most pipe makers say you don't need a re-map is that the stock header pipes are nearly as good, just not so light and handsome. The "resistors" are just noise baffles that attenuate sound somewhat like the catalytic converter, which gets taken off to accommodate the new exhaust. A magazine test of a $5000 titanium exhaust system showed zero horsepower gain over stock.
Open Flash Tuners and their expensive ilk are the only aftermarket products that can modify the stock ECU. KTM dealers are no longer allowed to flash in the "Akra map" unless the owner purchases an Akrapovic exhaust.
Power Commanders and Rapid Bike Easys etc. are add-ons or "piggybacks" as some like to call them.
