More info on titanium headers and re-maps (not needing one).

So, Austin Racing said no re-map required. Spark says needed. Now Silmotor say it's not needed and also that Spark no longer needs one with their new version. Apparently they are putting 'resistors' or 'pre-silencer' plates into the collector-box to restrict the flow such that a re-map is not needed.

Silmotor also say the best set-up is to keep the o2 sensors but to also fit a modded IAT sensor into the airbox, to richen the mixture. That can also be done with a re-map of course. So, not "needed" but better to have a re-map if possible.

The IAT sensor can be fooled by a Booster Plug into telling the ECU that it's somewhat colder out than it actually is, which causes an 8% across-the-board enrichment. O2 sensors stay in place. They will actually negate the effect of any add-on and return the closed-loop map to original parameters.

The reason most pipe makers say you don't need a re-map is that the stock header pipes are nearly as good, just not so light and handsome. The "resistors" are just noise baffles that attenuate sound somewhat like the catalytic converter, which gets taken off to accommodate the new exhaust. A magazine test of a $5000 titanium exhaust system showed zero horsepower gain over stock.

Open Flash Tuners and their expensive ilk are the only aftermarket products that can modify the stock ECU. KTM dealers are no longer allowed to flash in the "Akra map" unless the owner purchases an Akrapovic exhaust.

Power Commanders and Rapid Bike Easys etc. are add-ons or "piggybacks" as some like to call them.

What I'd like to know is why it's become debatable with the Gen3 to delete the o2 sensors. It can be done in the ECU with a map-flash, I know that much.

Yes, I had a PC5 on my 2019 Gen2, and everything deleted (inc the o2 sensors). Full Akra and DNA intake system, It ran like a peach. My SDR Evo runs like a peach too, nothing done but the servo eliminated, an SC-Projects CRT can and a modded map. Now I'm thinking about titanium headers but FMG, tying to get knowledge from these various companies is like having teeth pulled. BHPUK are right up there.
The ECU's have purportedly become more evolved and difficult to modify over successive model years. So trying something that worked for one generation, as they say, may not work so well with a newer gen. Stock O2 sensors will bring the closed-loop back to stock mapping unless the ECU is remapped, regardless of any other tuning efforts.

The greatest benefit of a full exhaust system is reduced weight and possibly larger O2 sensor bungs for tuning. Ti is definitely lightest. But tuning parameters should be the same regardless of pipe.
I've also asked around, and been told AR full system doesn't need a remap.
Bud of mine has silmotor headers + AR can w/ Akra map, and says it just drinks more gas and want to go back to stock map.

I have full AR system w/ stock map. One of the dealer wants $80 for an Akra map, but I don't think I need it. I never red line it, so I'll trust AR guys this time.

Yes I noticed it was thirsty after the akra map ..100 miles to a full tank. But then if i wanted amazing mpg I wouldn't of got the sdr :p

So with all this said....would it be possible to have someone make a midpipe for a cat delete with some sort of baffles that could "lighten" the whole system without spending a gazzillion dollars on a akra or austin??
After all the horsepower gains are negligible and weight reduction is what most of us want!

Arrow makes such a midpipe, but it ain't cheap.

My motivation for losing the catbox was excess heat in slow summer traffic. Once that thing gets hot, not even a fast cruise cools it down.

For the gen 3 ?

For the gen 3 ?
Dominator do one that was cheaper for me then a AR slip on. Stainless not ti, happy with quality, 5kg lighter then standard (including muffler)

Unknown at this juncture. Usually takes the aftermarket a while to catch up after a new model intro.

Did you need to do a re-map for this system?

No.
But i think i will probably do one.
Bike wasnt great fueling wise std & is probably slightly worse now.

Ah, So it's take a dealer into doing the Akra flash, if they don't. who knows what will work.

Hey man do you have a video of this on? Looking to pull the trigger on one but even dominator says they have nothing of what it sounds like lol.

I'm selling mine if you're interested, I can't put videos on here as the says the files are to large. I'll try something else & get back to you. Let me know if you're interested.

I have the Arrow decate, it looks good, not too loud and with remap will give you 8 hp with standard muffler. It's not cheap but quality made.
