Well now.

And...

I know for sure I read an article on my phone today about a new and upcoming 990 sportbike prototype being spotted somewhere. Got home from work later that day and now I can't find anything beyond that one link. Apparently there's a 990 sportbike coming.

Menso~ Interesting article/pics. If KTM continues to decrease the gap from the 1290 (i.e., 690, 790, 890, 990, 1090, 1190, etc.) then it could pilfer sales. I am all for a rebirth of a KTM branded sport bike (I have posted about it before) so it will certainly be exciting to see what KTM releases.

I want an updated RC8 with the same motor as the LC8 1290. Would buy that in a heartbeat. It probably competes too close to SDR territory,

Wonder why so many KTM model numbers end in "90"? It seems to have little to do with displacement, as the SDGT is 1301 cc, IIRC.
Kinda reminds me of Lincoln's automobile model scheme, having so many different models all start with "MK".

interesting new headlight, as the article suggests maybe a copy of the Yamaha mt09 stacked headlight, be good to see Kim roll this 990 as 890 replacement to a family of bikes duke/sport tourer/sport bike, probably only 2 of the three but we can hope….

According to the article, an 890-based tracker is in store for Production Twins in mid-2022
This will be an r&d venture until it's debut race in May, with an eye on figuring out how to level the PT/ST combined field for 2023.
Just make it a 990 and leave ST specs alone. Yamaha has a 900 triple. Harley teases a 975cc twin. Who else wants to play?

Seems like they had one motor with a -90 displacement and it became synonymous.
"Mark" has long been a way of denoting successive iterations of a vehicle (or machine)
