Ok I spent hours trying different combinations to get my rear turn signals to work. I cut the harness so I can install my R&G tail tidy. This is what I have both signals obviously have a 2 black wires one with a white dash one without.
My bike has:
1 Yellow Wire
1 Brown Wire
2 Purple wires
2 Black Wires

Now Wth do I do. assuming the brown is ground wire? Do i connect both Turn Signals to the brown Wire. and the other to either the purple or the black? I just want to get this damn bike on the road(Inspection). Oh and Ive ridden if a few times without plates and one time noticed a little smoke assuming stator cover leak? Is this a pain in the ***? I don't wanna have to get an rsv4

First, whenever you about to "cut" the wiring harness to install something, you should STOP.
It's not necessary to cut anything to install the R&G tail tidy.
Second, use the wiring diagram - it show what goes where and to what:

the irony of his name makes this thread an instant classic.

that wiring diagram cageyar posted should help you out a lot. befoe you start cutting stuff, you should trace where they go/what they do and label them accordingly. if you cant read that diagram, turn on one side of your blinkers and use a test light to see which wire makes your test light flash on/off.

I was thinking the same thing...I installed mine and didn't go cutting anything...

No offense but this is pretty easy. Without the diagram its just a matter of guess and check. I made my own fender eliminator and it prolly took 30 mins max. Nothing wrong with a little forplay.
That being said, try one wire at a time. Turn the blinker on both ways and see which wire responds. If your lights are at a constant and not blinking that must be the white wire and that is to illuminate the license plate. That tripped me out for a sec. Good luck.

( this coming from a guy that took a whole week to install his evo4 . thanks for the motivation Streebs)

ya i kept getting them both to work individually then when the both are hooked up the left would work. But when I do the right then they turn into hazard lights. Either way I got it to work and im all good now. I had a running wire in the mix I didnt need (the yellow one) I found on another post someone said

Brown = ground
Purple = left positve
black = right positive
yellow= license plate light

thats pretty much what i was looking for, Oh and YES i did need to cut the harness so I could splice the wires together. those 4 were all together in one plug and the turn signals are obviously aren't on a harness so idk how you guys wire things without splicing wires. But thanks anyway everything's good now ill look into the dye fast4d was talking about.
