Hi, new member and first post. Does anybody know why heated grips are different for 2023 model year bikes that you can't use earlier model years?

Dealer says earlier years grips won't fit and are suggesting aftermarket heated grips as I will have to wait for the new grips... maybe more than a year...

So I took bike home without heated grips. Love bike BTW.

If I have to use aftermarket than I will install myself, it seems easy and KTM already have two sets of 10Amp spare electrical connections around the steering head, and a USB charge port.

If aftermarket fit than it seems to me the only issue is the electrical connector for 2023 OEM? Seems nuts to me...

I did the upgraded aftermarket KTM quick turn throttle on my 2021 , my OEM grip fit no problem. I can't see KTM making a different quick turn throttle assembly just for the 2023 EVO. I would take the grip off and open up the throttle housing- I 100% think its the same internals as the 2022 and the KTM Powerparts one they are selling . I think they just put a longer grip spacer for the 2023 EVO in the pic u posted--

Yep, what should have been a 20 minute job took well over an hour due to the elusive connector. Tube vids showed accessing it on the right side behind the headstock, mine was over on the left side and hanging low. Got some picks at Princess Auto which helped with lifting it up and moving it to the right.

It is a fidly time consuming process. 2023 SA-R here, Mine was on the left side as well and not enough slack to feed out the right side. The wire sleeve was printed/stamped “heated grips” so no confusion there. I fed the grip wires all the way through the headstock, plugged everything together, zip tied the bundle and stuffed it back into the headstock frame.

I have a SDR 2023 with the new 'fast' and thinner throttle assembly and could not get heated grips from KTM. I asked them by email for a date the new grips will be available but they said they did not know and they could not say if they will be available at all.

So I bought the new Oxford Pro Sport grips with integrated controller and a real thermostat. They should fit every throttle tube approximately 25.6mm diameter. The throttle tube of the 2023 SDR is 26.2 though... It seems like KTM tries to prevent mounting after market grips on their bikes. Does anybody have experience shaving 0.3mm off their throttle tube? If so: how to do this while maintaining the right round shape?

The throttle assembly cannot be easily opened because they are not assembled with screws.

That seems like a fairly bad idea. The tubes aren’t all that thick. 0.3 mm isn’t a big percentage of the tube diameter, but it is (or could be) a significant percentage of the tube wall thickness. I have no idea how much that would weaken the tube, but I wouldn’t do it, myself.

What in the world is KTM thinking? The standard throttle tube diameter is not working for them? And no heated grip option on the horizon still. When they do will I have to pay a monthly fee to utilize it??? 🤔

My dealer proposed an aftermarket option, they probably did not realize the complications of the throttle tube diameter... or maybe:

Use 1" bar heated grips and sleeve up the tube... would be more doable.
