Hey . Im from India and I just bought a KTM Duke 250 last December 2020. Within a week I noticed oil stains on the engine .(left side of the bike) immediately I called the service center they told to bring it only during the 1st Service,so they can have a look and fix it. Because the nearest service center is 80 km from my place. Now recently, i went for the 1st Service i mentioned about the leak to the mechanic. First he tried to change the o-ring inside the spark plug sleev...But after changing it started to leak even more.. Im really worried...now they are saying they want to change the full sleeve and all the o rings . Is it normal for a new bike to leak oil from that hole .Also I don't want them to open up everything in a 1 month old bike.
Help me please

Hi Nadzz,

Hard to see from the pics, but it's not normal for any bike engine to leak oil, especially a brand new one!

I'm not expert on the 250's, but it must be leaking from somewhere and that hole might be a drain, if as you posted, it's leaking from the spark plug shaft it was probably meant to let any water drain away.

The mechanics may have to pull the cam cover off and check all the gaskets and o rings so they might check the valve clearances while they are in there - it could be to your advantage to have that checked early, but a bit of a shame your new bike had an oil leak.

The mechanics may have to pull the cam cover off and change the gaskets and o rings so they might check the valve clearances and head tension while they are in there - it could be to your advantage to have that done at the warranty service, but a bit of a shame your new bike had an oil leak in the first instance. Still, that's what warranty is for, so let them set it right and it should be sweet from then on ;) .

Hi DaveAu
Thanks for the reply. My bike is in service center for past 2 days. They said they have to replace the sparkplug sleeve and the o rings. Lets see if they can fix it.
