Hey, not much out there on luggage on the SD so thought I'd start a thread up to post pics of your set up so we can all have a look. Mods if you want to sticky this post in the SD section?
Here's my Kriega US20 tail pack, fits easy to the straps under the rear seat and doesn't really get in the way of moving around. Have a US10 that attaches to the US20 when i need more space.
Anyways post up some pics for us all of powerparts or any other touring/luggage ideas.

I currently have the KTM Small Tail Bag but I plan to put saddlebags on my SDR, preferably small saddlebags.
1st choice- install SW Motec carriers on my KTM and use my current SW Motec Legend bags from my Bonneville. (carriers not available in USA yet)
2nd choice- SW Motec Urban ABS bags (not available in USA yet, and bigger than I want)
3rd choice- SW Motec Blazer saddlebags
4th choice- KTM saddlebags (bigger than I want)

PS: sorry I don't know how to arrange the pictures better, nor how to insert a description for what picture is what bag.

@runnerhiker the SW Motech gear looks good and was on my radar, I looked into their aluminium rear plate but they only make it for the SDGT, the power parts tail bag looks good by the way, and it expands?
What screen is that out of interest?

Sounds like a good setup @wsmc831 when you get a chance post up a pic on your bike for us? How big is the tank bag?
Agreed soft luggage has come a long way, as long as it works mostly it's worth the cost.

Bag does not get in the way of display or gps, but it's close. You lose internal space with the locking system, but convenience won out for me. I went with non electric and wired my own plug in the front to 2 usb, mp3 out the back. Lots of different bag sizes/shapes to choose from...and yes, difficult to find pictures...I just did a best guess, and bag works for me. Rear is C Bow 21 liter bags with center plate where rear seat is to strap down tent/sleeping bag.

I already have SW Motech Legend bags on my Triumph Bonneville, I just purchased the carrier frames for the SDR so I can mount the same bags on the KTM. Removing the bags from the carriers is easy, press a lever and pull up. Move the bags to the other bike, just press the same lever and push down onto the carriers. I like it.

The carriers for the KTM were $80 ea or $160 for the pair. Installation was very easy, 30 minutes for both. The bags were $180 ea.

@runnerhiker looks like a great set up and I guess relatively quick to attach and detach side bags? What size are the SW Motech bags? Your SD looks ready to tour ;)

I found of Hepco and Becker Orbit side cases (Hard waterproof 22l) locally however I have to re fabricate mounting hardware to fit the SDR (was for a speed triple765). Sure the c-bow mounts are available for the SDR but I doubt they tuck in to my satisfaction...

I’ll post updates as I progress.

rough mock up of the mounting position of the Hepco and Becker Orbit cases. Need to fine tune before I finalize it. Started on the exhaust side to ensue it out of the exhaust blast. Hopefully the tail subframe is symmetrical so I can easily complete the other side.

I read through the whole thread and can't figure out what that seat mounting plate is. is it custom? I'm only seeing them for the Evo. I have a first gen and really want something like this for touring.

Well with Covid and the colder weather, I’ve been able to fabricate some brackets that I’ll have reinforced, cleaned up and panted. A bit of a pain to fabricate but I’m going to be happy with the end result. The brackets are a lot lighter than what Hepco provides but more importantly they fit cleanly to the bike (much closer) rather then sticking out a few more inches.

I had to notch the metal to get the sharp bends - I’ll have a friend fillet weld the joints to add strength.

I also need to order up some stainless spacers from McMaster Carr.

You folks with the 2020 SDR are so lucky with the very clean mounting systems available from powerparts.

@2cati That’s looks great. Taking notes. I’m working on a hard case mounting solution for my 990R. I found that the Hepco Becker pannier rack from a BMW R1200R is dangerously close and can be made to work with some slight modifications and a fabbed top mounting bracket. I’m planning to create a thread showing the project...when I actually get to it.

Finally fine tuned the fit and painted the homemade brackets.

I now can use just the cowl with the side bags or replace it with the sport rack and add my topcase!
I now have 22L (per side case) + 33L when the top case is attachéd - all lockable/waterproof. I’m really happy with the result — each side has 4 solid mounting points and the c-bow mounts are as tight to the bike as possible making for a sleek look. It was time consuming but good therapy during these strange times.

Thanks - it wasn’t easy but I now realize in how important it is to have storage for me. you don’t know what you don’t know!

The side cases are only 22L each and the top case is 33L. Being waterproof and lockable is an added bonus. I now have room for my puncture repair kit, extra layers, gloves and it’s been super convenient taking the bike for beer or groceries runs. Certainly beats the 13L tail pack I had....once you have storage, there is no going back....
