TPMS battery/sensor replacent

The rear tire sensor in my '16 GT took about 12 miles to come on today. I'm guessing the battery may be going soon. I'm also guessing that the design makes simply replacing the battery very difficult.

What have y'all done? I've replaced batteries before, but that was a different bike, different design. Any recommendations or sources for replacements? A set of 4 for many cars costs about $30 bucks. The OEM part for my GT is close to $80!

Saw a video a while back of a guy replacing battery on KTM sensor. Involved cutting sensor open, so not ideal. Maybe search YouTube.
Alternatively, the KTM sensors are rebranded Schrader sensors. Check their website, they will have the original replacement.
Alternatively, I have seen them available on AliExpress.
FYI, I have not tried any of the above as my sensors have not failed yet.

Yup, I watched the video. Changing the battery on one of those "potted" sensors seems awkward but doable, for sure. But I'd rather just buy a new one; gettin' lazy in my old age. I'll try looking for a Schrader, maybe on aliexp, etc.

Wonder why ours are priced so much higher than sensors for cars? Sorta like tires: cost more, shorter life. Oh well, just the cost of being a bike owner.

I'll be curious to hear what you learn. My first time changing my front tire i broke the sensor (new to TPMS so I had forgotten it was in there), and so I bought a used one from a facebook group member to replaced it. Definitely didn't see any easy way to replace the battery so my guess is the only solution will be fully replacing the sensor. And given that they automatically sync up with the computer system... I imagine you'll have to buy OEM as well. not to rain on your parade, but hoping that you prove me wrong!

My search so far has been fruitless. Seems that the OEM is made by Schrader, and the Schrader sensor sells for essentially the same price as the "KTM" piece, or about $80 bucks, plus tax, and plus any shipping. That's about 4-5 times the cost of a sensor for many cars.

It's also curious that I was unable to find much at all on the KTM forums about changing batteries or the sensors themselves. I would have thought that with an estimated battery life of only 5 years (per Schrader) that there would be more.

I was surprised to learn from the Schrader web site that "most motorcycle accidents are caused by under inflated tires.". And all this time I thought most were caused by left-turning cars.

My guess here is that the batteries die and people don't notice/don't care to replace. When I broke my sensor I super glued it back together and it worked fine for a few hundred miles before it let go again. When it failed there was no error or warning displayed so it was really no inconvenience at all unless I was specifically trying to look at the pressure unlike the warning you get if it is low. If there was a daily warning when one dies/fails i bet you would have seen a lot more discussions on the topic!

Ok, so when deciding between KTM or aftermarket TPMS, I did a little research. This was a while ago so forgive my poor memory.
You don't need OEM replacement sensors as far as I recall. Its just the frequency that matters. 433Mhz on my 890r if I recall correctly. So if i get an aftermarket 433Mhz tpms sensor, and replace only one at a time, it should automatically hand shake and register with the KTM control unit. You can search Aliexpress with the OEM part number to find replacements.
Edit: found example from adv rider.
Edit 2: with the Schrader website, use the part number there to search Aliexpress. I think that's what I did to find my future replacements.
