Hello everyone! I am experiencing a problem with my 1290 SAR 2021. In low rpms when I open the throttle I have multiple jerks...I am just shooting this out check if anyone else does have the same issue. Especially in rain mode when I accelerate in low rpms between 2500rpm and 3000rom only, the bike jerks so much that some times is dangerous if you are in a turn. I managed to reduce this behavior yesterday by turning the mtc and msr off. It seemed fine until a tight turn with low speed in 2nd gear tried to test it in this scenario and it did it again. Went to KTM connected the bike to the computer no error codes but an update for the engine was available. Update of the engine done but the problem still there. Next thing to replace under the warranty is the throttle twist.

Thank you.

My Superduke GT was really jerky at low rpm. I changed the low rpm fueling by adding Rotty fueling dongles and that cured it. These bikes run really lean and lumpy at low rpm from the factory and the dongles address that. Not sure if thats your issue but it worked for me.

Thank you for sending. I just bought a brand new bike and it should be working fine without spending more money right after buying it. You know what I mean. I am just searching for people who have the same problem and KTM solve it. It is completely unacceptable. Anyway thank you again!

I have this, or a similar, issue with my 2021 SAS. Between 2500 - 3500 if I pick up the throttle maybe 40-60% full then every so often I get the huge jerk from the engine. Its like a misfire, within half a second the power is cut and then back full and has the effect of a huge jerk. My bike had done around 2500 miles and it probably started happening around 500 miles ago. There seem to be a few people with the same issue and its outlined in a YouTube video here (
). Mine isn't as bad as the guy's in the video however but i've got it booked into my local KTM dealer on Monday.

I have tried it in street and rain mode and get the same behavior. Also my quick shifter has never been perfect (every so often refuses to shift UP and so I have to pull the clutch in) so as a test I disabled it and it does seem a bit better but its so hard to tell as it doesn't happen often (more R&D miles needed). I so however suspect the QS may be involved. Other than that I guess fuel filters (means draining tank I think) or some kind of software glitch. Some people on that YT link have suggested the foot could be knocking the shifter but mine is nowhere near.

I'll update when I know more. Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers, James

Hi!

I have the same issue! It’s not jerky.
The power completely shuts off for a split second.
My bike had an issue since day one.
When it gets wet the engine light turn on.
Fault codes states speed sensor according to the dealer.

This misfire issue nearly caused me to crash.
On the road the power comes back after the misfire, once on a gravel road it happened and the engine turned off completely locking up the rear wheel in a corner. Had to go home to change pants…

I am really scared this will be a dragged out issue.
It happens once or twice per ride and sometimes I doesn’t.

Bought mine brand new from Din Mc in Sweden. SAR 2021.

Hi all, new to the forum here. I have a 1290 SAS in US, and I have the same issue as in the video. Engine would missfire when I roll off throttle then accelerate, at around 3500 rpm. It doesn’t not feel like lugging, fueling jerk or hesitation, because for a split second it loses power completely. Here are some more traits:

  • Happens in 3-6 gear so far
  • Happens with QS+ and MTC MSR off
  • Happens with warm or cold engine
Will add more information if I remember more.

If you have the same issue please help report it to you dealer so they can get more visibility.

My bike has been in the dealer for 3 weeks, and they insist that KTM USA says it’s a non issue, even though quite a few people in Europe has replaced the flywheel and solved the issue.

I am so frustrated and feel completely helpless that I just bought a new bike with this serious issue and be stuck with it.

Hi there,
New to the forum and indeed KTM ownership having moved from an R1200GS to a new Super Adventure S a month ago and love it.. I'm based over in the UK.
Hoping I can help here as I have suffered exactly the same problem as have a few owners over here. I've been in touch with my dealer and it is now a know problem with a solution.. there was a recent workshop bulletin sent to all dealers advising of the resolution.
There is a problem with the machining on the ignition rotor.. in some instances there is a gap where the 'teeth' are milled down and there is an inaccuracy where there is still a slight shadowing of the former teeth which is picking up on the ignition. If this section is slightly filed down the problem goes away.
In my instance this didnt work but the head technician measured to 0.1mm the gap between all of the teeth and found in accuracies in their size and gaps between them which showed significant differences.
The bulletin advised a replacement rotor ($1000 part) which I'm assured will fix it.. under warranty of course.
Its out there in the KTM dealer network and should be a known solution across the globe.

Mine was doing the same thing. KTM has my dealership troubleshoot the issue for a few days and finally ordered the rotor and said it will be done next week. Apparently they had a batch with bad magnetism causing the issues??? Oh well hopefully it works.

Hi, mine 1290 Super Adv R 2022 is doing the same, typically when cornering and open a throttle bit more aggresive when going out, or just suddenly want swift acclerating, mostly driving in Race mode. Indeed it is scary when expecting to kick and for miliseconds there is something like strong back pull. Not have it every ride, maybe 2nd. So far clock is on 3000km. Mention it to dealer at 1000km service, didnt put much attension on it. Next time will push, will see reaction.

Got a new 2023 SDGT just ran in and now in Spain on tour - 1500 miles. If I am around 3000 rpm and open the throttle half or more to power out of hairpins it misfires. I can make it happen on demand, high gear around 3k and open the throttle over half and it misfires. Foot nowhere near the quickshifter. Hopefully dealer can sort it out on my return.

I owns a S.D GT 2023 and have the same power down jerk at acceleration in 3-6:th gear from aprox 3000rpm.

Have prepered for spring season service to have them fix my engine problems! and I hope they take your advice about the Rotor unit beeing the reason for the jerky behaivour.

Took it into the dealers who rode it and couldn't find the problem. I told them to take it back out 28mph in 2nd, 36mph in 3rd or 68mph in 6th and open the throttle - guarantee missfire. Happened to the mechanic and they have wiped software and reinstalled with tech pack - unfortunately this has now caused a problem with the quickshifter. They have took the alternator cover off and took photos of the poorly machined rotor for KTM to look at this week. It is being plugged into KTM Austria to look at the quickshifter. Only a month old!!
