Guys was sending my 1190 Adv R loaded to Denver on August 11th to do both Colorado and Utah BDR,s and the a slab trip up 89 and 28 to 29 through the Grand Teton and then into yelowstone. 2 1/2 week trip. Any hoot my bike was shipped through u_ship.com and bottom line is 2 miles from the Colarado state line on Rt 70 , the shipper had an accident and my 1190 Adv R was totlaed.

Had to rent a Penske truck in Boulder drive it out too Goodland Kansas and pick up my buddies and my bike and gear and drive them back to Maryland. Any hoot I had to get a new bike and picked up a new 2015 1290 SA. I had two sets of wheels for the 1190 Adv R. A standard 21 x 18 setup with off road tires and a 19 x 17 standard Adventure set up with Conti trial attacks on it. My bike was totaled with eh 21 x 18 set. So basically I have two identical sets of tires for the 1290 SA. I put the set I had on because they have about 1,000 miles on them and I am going to a rally in Suches Georgia second week of September. We will ride down pretty hard with the group I'm in and then three days of chasing twisties and then home. I figure this will we rat them out pretty good. Then I'll get some 50/50 tire s and spoon them on.

Any hoot just as with the 1190 when ever I switched tires the TPMS Sensor would fail to connect, and I would get a TPMS FAILURE notice on my screen. Is there any way to avoid having to take the bike to the dealer to register the new sensors with the system. Or is just the way it is?

Yes there is a trick to it. I guess the ECU has the two sensors front and rear registered in its list of connected devices. So what I did was this. Put both the orginal wheels back on drove it 5 minutes to confirm that the TPMS sensors were both recognized by ECU. Went back and changed out the front tire but left the orginal rear on. Went out for a ride at first recognized rear but would not recognize front sensor. After 30 minutes or so of riding up pops the front sensor. My guess there is an allowance in the program to simply accept a new sensor. So if one went bad, you could order a new one and after being in a configuration where one is accpted and one is not it would by default accept the new TPMS sensor as a valid device. After it accepted I simply repeated the same process replacing the rear wheel and Voila after 30 minutes +/- it accepted the rear sensor as well.

I first had a 1190 Adv R and got at std Adventure 19 x 17 set. Either way it's nice to be able to change wheels and basically have a second bike. Currently on my 1290 SA I have two sets of 19 x17's . One with off roads and the other with street tires. Good luck

Yes I always switch out in sequence, when I am changing out when going from 21 x 18 to 19 x 17 first I take of 21 front and put on the 19. I ride it just long enough to have tpms sensors sync. So only 10 or 15 minutes and the I switch the 18 to the 17 rear. I don't push it when I am out of sequence on differrent wheels , say street vs off road. Just ake it easy and the switch other tire

Well I'm VERY pleased to report it worked great! Took about 4-5 mins for each wheel. Makes sense, as if both changed simultaneously the computer wouldn't know which was front and rear.

You will not believe the hours I've spent trying to crack this problem! Numerous phone calls and emails to KTM dealer, KTM technical, Scahrader in Northern Ireland who supply the sensors, local tyre dealer and his generic sensor programmer......

I'm very happy. But WTF don't KTM know this???? -

Dear Mr Chappel

We are very sorry to have to tell you that the TMPS system fitted to the KTM 1190 and 1290 Adventure bikes will only recognise two sensors, we know of no other way of making is see different sensors without introducing them via the KTM diagnostic tool.

We are very sorry that this does not help you very much but we can find no way round this at the moment.

Best regards

and after a bit more pushing

Dear Ian

I already spoke with R&D regarding this and unfortunately they know of no way of doing what you ask. So sorry but I really do think it would cause big problems with the ECU system and sofware on your bike to try this.

Best regards

Bernie

Grizz, you're a star!!

I am not a star? Actually I stumbled across this scenario pretty quickly. Like you I called my dealer and same answers as you. . I just could not accept that the second set of tires would not sync without hooking it up to diagnostics. One day I just thought to myself what would happen if I only changed one. I almost feel over when it worked. Of course I called the dealer to let them know they should forward this back to corporate. I guess they have not been informed.

No it does not database, only holds data in ROM. Each time you change tires you either stager sequence or hook to a diagnostic device and manually set

@Grizz do you know of a diagnostic tool you can use with the KTM to program in the TPMS IDs? I just built up a set of Dubya wheels and installed KTM TPMS sensors. Made the mistake of switching both at once and rode for 30min and now I get a TPMS failure code. Put my old rear back on and it can’t find that either :( so I think I need to program them in...dealer wants $100 to do it.

Sorry I can not help you there. As I had said as long as one is on it will after 15 minutes or so accept that one has changed. Who knows maybe it still has one in memory I would try putting both the original tires back on. Ride it for 20 minutes and see if it finds them. If not then /I would assume it will have to be programmed. Sorry I cant give you a definite answer.

not sure if this thread still running ....
i have a ktm super adventure S 2020 with cast wheels that i change with the KTM spoke wheels set # 6070990104430 including tpms ( part # 60312133000) which are 433 mhz as well.
i went to the dealer to get them pair with my bike apparently that TPMS is not compatible with my bike .

I look on the ktm part web site that part # TPMS is use on the 1290 R 2020 same years as mine .....im not sure why its not compatible

i read all this thread and i will very like to swap one of my old cast wheel to try to introduce one wheel at the time but my cast wheels don't have rotor anymore since they have been put on my new spoke wheel .

i try to run with one of the cast wheel tpms attache to my new spoke wheel , after few minutes it did read that old tpms but never one of the new one , as there was 3 tpms accessible i try to ride for 1 hrs and only the old tpms show .

so i'm a bit stuck
i will not mind to paid at the dealer so they assign my new spoke wheels tpms to my bike but they are quite stubborn and sure it will never work as they say its not compatible

any suggestion

thanks all
