Thanks for the info guys. I have been riding a 4 stroke and just purchased a 200cc mxc KTM. The manual stated 60:1 and I have had my grandson run 40:1 in his Yamaha YZ85. I split the difference in the manual and have been mixing 50:1 but after the discussion on this site I am changing to 40:1.

Do you guys run a 10-40w 4 stroke oil in your transmissions?

BruceLee
Since when doe's KTM make a manual for there bikes ? :punk: Mine looks like a flyer from Wal - Mart

I have a 2012 KTM 250SX and I run Motorex 2T at 40:1 for my premix and Motorex 4T for the Crankcase/Gear oil. Its what the factory recommends for mine and a local dealer has a pretty good price on the Motorex luckily!
I bought a 13 250sx. Did u have to modify ure jetting at all? Mine is brand new and has some trouble idling.

I like Castrol R
Where do you get the Castrol R? Used to use it years ago in my 495 KTM.
Blendzall is another if you like the nostalgia smell.

Using 125:1 Maxima Castor 927 as a top end lube in my SDR…Just messing with my riding buddies noses…they think I'm running some exotic fuel. :001_rolleyes:

I bought my first KTM last summer ('13) and since the manual recommends Motorex oils, I went with it. The way I look at it, you have to buy motorcycle oils anyway, so just let the manual make the brand decision for you.

The good thing about using Motorex Cross Power 2T is that it is a 1 liter bottle and that is enough premix for 15 gallons of gas, for a 250&300 only, not a 150 or below. I mix 3 containers of gas (5 gallons each) and split the bottle of premix into 3rd's (a little over 11 oz. each since 1 liter = 33.814 oz). This gives you a ratio of 58:1. On the 250, the recommendation when using Motorex Cross Power 2T is 60:1.

Jetting changes with weather and altitude. Just like the suspension, the factory jets bikes for a target riding condition. Look on the net for "Duncan carb jetting". They have the best downloadable explanatory I have ever read.

Amsoil for me then after reading that test !!
Just to give some more support to Amsoil, I've run it in my Berg
since after I broke it in with dino oil.

I am STILL on the original top end (albeit) I am going to do the top
end before the next season.

All oils will burn differently so the Mix Ratio is a guide.

Start at the recommended ratio. Take note of exhaust smoke and look at the plug for wet soot.

In the exhaust, you should notice just a nery light haze of blue smoke. If it is very noticeable, lean it out a little at a time.

At 32:1, I bet that Kawi smoked pretty good no matter what oil you used.

Bob
No. My brother and myself did many seasons racing KX80 and 125s using castrol TTS at 32:1 and there was very little to no blue smoke. In that time we never blew an engine, nor was there any problems with carbon build up or problems with the power valve systems.

I just bought 4 liters of Motorex cross power 2T from Amazon for $61.00 and free shipping. I should have it Monday with 2 day Prime shipping. KTM recommends it. Its for my new 1999 KTM 300 EXC. Should last me a while at 60:1. About 63 gallons worth from my calculations.

I heard some bad news for Amsoil. According to what I read a guy blew up his 2 stroke and found the insides blackened.
Not how I want to treat my new 300 EXC.

Oil threads never get old and they will never die 🤣
