Hi guys,

I have a 2016 690 duke with 6000 miles on it, when i'm riding between 3,500rpm and 4,500rpm i get this intermittent slapping noise, i've adjusted and lubricated the drive chain but thats made no difference, beginning to wonder if it could be the cam chain?

Its more noticeable when leaning to the left (the side with the cam chain on) and sometimes when initially starting the bike it does a single slap just as it fires, I think these have hydraulic tensioners on them? but surely for start up it should have spring tension to stop the chain rattling around?

Ussually you can also tell if the cam chain tensioner is iffy when the start up from cold is rattle then the sound backs off as oil pressure builds.
The slapping might be the a flöppy 32 that does not want to seat in its rev position.

start by pulling the tensioner see if its working correctly, check to see it squashes to loaded then can be set off to spring open.
