Hi, im considering buying a 2024 KTM Duke 990 with tech pack. I understand some owners grade the braking system low because of lacking feedback and inconsistent brake lever pressure requirements.

if you are an owner would you like to give your impressions of the 2024 duke 990 brake system? Did you try other brake pads and what change did this make?

I am a sportive street rider, I will mostly ride twisties in the mountains so the feeling of the brakes is mayor important for me.

thank you, regards Sascha

The admins/mods/whoever need to update the engine sizes on the forums, since you're talking about a Duke and this is the Super Duke section (of course there used to be a SD 990). I will give you my take, although I'm not a Duke owner anymore.

I had an 890 Duke R before my SD GT. It had the Brembo Stylema calipers, but the pads that were fitted as OEM were intended for slower, less aggressive riding. They had more bite when cold, but even early on would show signs of not delivering quite the level of braking force that I wanted. Either way, I rode fairly hard with them, and wound up glazing the pads well before they wore down. The solution was to order some upgraded pads - I went with Brembo's street race compound pads. I loved them on my 890 R, and I also fitted them to my GT.

Upgrading the pads would almost certainly help, but when it comes to consistency/feedback issues, I'd think the master cylinder could be more at fault. Hopefully others here who know more about braking systems can chime in.

Hi, this is already super valuable info. thank you 🙏🏼
Where new brake pads are a rather inexpensive option, abraded stainless steel brake-lines and changing the master cilinder is quite more expensive.
I hope for more info of others about their experiences with the actual duke 990 brakes. 👍🏻

Good day guys and girls, Just a follow up on my post regarding the Duke 990 (2024) brakes. I’m riding this bike now for 3500 km’s. These km’s are more than 90% on twisty mountain roads. I’m very enthousiastic about the bike. The brakes are more than efficient. The feel could be better but is certainly not bad. The stopping power is not the best but certainly better than good on twisty mountain roads. I have not used them for high speed full braking but I did for multiple downhill mountain pass turns. My conclusion the brakes are more than sufficient. No need To modify or be uncertain about them. After 3500 km’s of Pyrenees mountain passes I can be sure about that 💪🏻😃
