Hi. I have a 2016 690Duke which I've fitted heated grips to + on cold days I plug a headed jacket into the bike. Unfortunately, these things use all the power generated by the bike causing the battery to go flat. To save power elsewhere I'd like to explore changing the headlight bulb to one of the LED type because I understand they use a lot less than the standard item. Has anyone had any experience of changing their headlight to a LED and if so please can you recommend a supplier/type.

Thanks

Your story is making me nervous, Steve. Your bike should be able to drive grips and a jacket without depleting power unless you like sitting on your bike without it running to show off how snug your jacket is.

I wouldn't be wasting moolah on tricky LED lamp conversions until you know what's-what with your leccie supply.

If you decide that you bike is making 'nuff leccie and you want an LED lamp anyway, your issue will be finding a lamp that fits the shroud. It has been done before. Not by me.

Hi and thanks for that

I've done the sums and they are as follows:

Alternator produces a maximum of 224 watts but not when riding slowly or stationary

Headlight uses 55 watts
Rear and number plate lights use 10 watts
Heated jacket uses 84 watts
Heated grips use 48 watts

Total power consumption without fuel pump or engine management, indicators, brake light etc = 197 watts

Therefore only 27 watts to run the bike, charge the battery and account for when in traffic or running slowly

Hence the reason for wishing to save power elsewhere

LED bulbs use a fraction of conventional bulbs hence why I think changing mine may solve my problem

I am running a Led headlight, on my 690 duke -14, because I wanted more light.

Did some research and ended up with one from adv monster and I’m really pleased with the result.
Was quite easy to fit since it has mesh heatsink, haven’t had any problems with heat buildup so far, but living in Sweden could be one of the reasons...
