Hey I have this Ktm 300 mxc 2001 and I was installing a head light cause I use it in the dark but I got most of it installed their was one light missing to install and I was like well let me check to see if it starts and it did then I shut it off then finished the last light then put all the stuff back in it, then it wouldn’t start so I was like maybe I’m not strong enough to start it with all the lights wanting to turn on to so I made a switch so it was unplugged and it still wouldn’t start so I took the whole light out and it still won’t start, what should I do, I have check the harness and it looks like everything is still plugged so what should I do? This model doesn’t have a battery btw I hooked it to the harness

Welcome to forum.

So all the bits you fitted are now taken off? Nothing of all your hard work is left on the bike?? And there is no loose wires or a connector that now is in the wrong place?

Two main things that cause "Bike won't start": No fuel or no spark. As you fiddled with the electrics I suspect your issue is no spark. But to make sure, take the spark plug out and fit a new one to the spark plug cap, kick bike over and check for spark.

If no spark, disconnect kill switch and try again.

I suppose this bike does not have a fuse anywhere?

Come back if you still have the issue after this and we dig deeper.

So it has spark and it could need fuel but anything after that, it doesn’t have fuses but it does have like a black box it plugs into, I’ve never worked on a dirt bike but definitely not a 2 stroke, any ideas, oh and the

Check for spark as Axzon said.
If you have no spark and all the wiring is correct, the mxc may not run the same stator as the exc (which is strong enough for lights) and you have probably overloaded it and stuffed your stator.

So it doesn’t have spark lol just saw it in my mind, I found the issue it’s the coil pack but I can’t find one that isn’t under 30 bucks and won’t take a week to send and that one is used

So it wasn’t the coil cause I got the part in and it still doesn’t want to start and it has spark going from the head to the plug but when I make contact it doesn’t show any so I guess I did something wrong but let me know what y’all think, I can send some photos but I’m really about to sell it or blow it up cause I’ve had the thing for about a week and it’s already broken but I don’t think it’s the guys fault cause it ran fine till I tried to put the light on but lmk what y’all think

I looked up 2001 KTM 300 MXC on Rocky Mountain ATV the ignition schematic shows kokusan 2k-2 or 2k-3 stator. You can determine this by the number of wires coming from the stator. 2k-2 will have 1 yellow spade connection, and 2k-3 will have 2. You can do resistance testing on the stator. Here is the manual: http://www.keustermans.nl/KTM_Manual_engine_250_380_1999_2003_english.pdf Go to the Electrical section and there is a section for specs. You will need a multimeter, nothing fancy. Let us know what you find!

I had my 2k-2 stock stator go on me. I ordered one off ebay from a company and it only lasted 1 ride. Build quality was crappy. I ended up ordering an OEM from KTM. It's been fine since. There are other companies like http://regulatorrectifier.com/ that should be able to help with replacement stators, and CDIs. I am running one of their CDIs for a few months now.
