Rode my 2020 KTM 790 and after just 2 miles it died at a stop light. Message on screen "Immobilizer Failure!" With a giant exclamation mark! (I don't even know what an Immobilizer is)! I got it to start but just headed home. I've heard to just replace the battery with a Lithium. Would you concur? The dealer is an hour away and I'd rather not schlep it up there. Thanks for the advice!!:D

It’s in the Super Duke section, no idea if it’s the same issue. I doubt the on-bike battery is to blame if the bike was already running? But I’m no expert on the 790/890’s!

Do you have keyless ignition?

An immobilizer is an anti-theft device, where the bike will no start unless communication with an approved key is possible. It shouldn’t stop your bike though, I wouldn’t have thought. Again, someone who owns a 790/890 would know better than I, sorry!

I have a 14 Ah LiFePo in my 790 Adventure R. If it sits out when its cold (less than 45 deg.) for 8 hrs. or more, it cranks slow and the voltage reads about 12.5 ish. It will start but the Immobilizer Failure warning comes on. It runs fine and normal despite the warning. I'm assuming it is the lower voltage in cold weather that triggers it because in warmer weather the battery holds more V and I never see the warning message. If it starts to act up in warm weather I'll take it to the dealer to see if there is really something wrong. For now in my case I'll chalk it up to low battery V. From the Duke thread it appears that there are a few reasons for this issue.

So now I have an immobilizer failure showing on my screen. Have to tell you I've had defects with this KTM. Its a 2021 890 R with 900 miles on it. Cruise control defect upon delivery which was the brake lever sensors, dealer replaced. Bolts missing and in wrong place on pan, discovered at first oil change. Defective front tire which had to be replaced. Dealer was 100 miles away.
And now I get an Immobilizer failure on the screen. Key is original, will check batter voltage. Bike starts and runs.
I've owned Harleys and Honda's. Never had any of these problems. Considering KTM's Quality Image and price, I'm surprised by all of this. Frankly, I think I'm selling the bike. I didn't buy it to play around with the electronics, which I think are prone to failure and unnecessary. 5 Harleys, 0 defects. 2 Honda's 0 defects.

Can anybody help with the immobilizer?

I have a 23 890s and have had issues with the immobiliser also. It started when bike had only 40 miles on it. I would get “immobiliser antenna” warning and bike would not start. Dash would light up but the engine would not start. The bike stranded me two times. Ended up replacing entire immobilser system under warranty. Was a sad introduction to KTM.

I have a 2021 890DukeR and a Harley XR1200. I live in South Florida. I ride the XR way more. I found the KTM way too boring. I lived in GA and had the best riding in the country at my fingertips. Way too much bullshit with this bike. I bought this bike on a whim. I thought it would be fun. After finally figuring this track pack foolishness and shutting all of the safety ****. It turned it into a normal bike! My XR wheelied better than the KTM. The sad part is that it can't make it down straight Florida roads without ****ing up!!! The XR too! The plastic gas tank, Buell parts and Delotro fuel injection is unlike any other Harley. My bikes from the 80s and 90s ran better!! I was way more aggressive, took them on the track occasionally and tore up the mountains. My kids brand new GasGas MC125 is a piece of ****. Leaking fork seals, leaking something now. Less than 20 hours. They all suck!!! My brand new 1982 Seca 400. Basically a 4 stroke RD350. That got me across the USA! No fobs, no immobilizer. No track packs! I didn't need to control wheelies, shut off the ABS, pay for some sort of ridiculous heated grips. On a sportbike? That was GoldWing ****! So all the bikes and cars suck. They have to put this **** on bikes or they wouldn't install insure them. They tried that in around 1988. People forgot! After "Top Gun" came out, and everybody had to have a sportbike! The insurance companies had enough. That is why Honda dropped the Hurricane name and changed it to CBR. They may have claimed something different. To the general public.. ALL SPORTBIKE WERE NINJAS!!!! Nobody knew what a Katana was. The Katana600 was Suzukis 600 supersport for years. The GSXR600 didn't come out until 1992. Like 7 years after the 750.
