Thanks to Hammerhead for this.......Keyless replacement cap for the 2020 SDR here's the description on ebay

TWM CNC BILLET ALUMINUM QUICK RACING FUEL GAS CAP SUPER DUKE 1290 R

They are distributed in the U.S. by Motomillion, the dealer for TWM in Italy, and they still have a couple still in stock!
Had one of these on my triumph street triple and loved it. That being said with these bikes being keyless I don’t really understand the need for it on this bike? Triumph had to pull key so it made sense. But guess to each there own.

I don't have to remember to open the cap before turning off the bike, I don't have to fumble with the lid when I'm holding the gas hose in, don't have to worry about an electronic malfunction, and, I think it looks waaaay better.
Plus I think it added about 4 more MPH to the top end speed! gonna look really good with the carbon fiber trim, if it ever becomes available.

I've only had to fumble with mine once. That happened when I had to wait behind a truck at the pumps. Took about 5 minutes for him to finish filling and then I just pushed my bike forward. As my bike had been shut off for more than a minute, the cap was locked again. Started bike, shut off, popped gas tank open. A bit fiddly, but so far it works as advertised. I'd really rather have a regular gas cap, though.

So after stating I’ve never had an issue. Yesterday I was clearly distracted by something at the gas pump for a moment, I can’t remember what now. It timed out and locked the cap on me before I opened it. Turned bike on and opened cap. It wasn’t exactly tricky or anything. But I found it ironic having posted the above! 😂🤣

Do you happen to have specific instructions for the TWM on a 2020 SDR? The KTM PowerParts Racing Fuel Cap appears to be exactly the same (made in Italy as well) only $30 bucks more than the TWM, unfortunately Manny at Motomillion is out of TWMs for the SDR and I got 20% off the KTM version. However the KTM instructions are from 1/2014 and do not cover the 2020 SDR with the electronic release (which seems like it is going to break every time I use it). I have put TWMs from MM on my 2018 BMW S1000RR and 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 750 and both needed no instructions, in fact they each installed in less than five minutes. The KTM instructions state that you need to take the original fuel cap off via the six mounting cap screws (does not mention the filler neck overflow drain line, the evaporation valve/line and the electrical latch) and then unscrew three phillips screws on underside of the original cap, separate it and use the bottom section with the Racing Fuel Cap to seal the tank and act as a spacer. There are two phillips screw on the underside of the 2020 SDR cap that are visible, I took them out but the cap did not separate. I removed the cap/tank gasket and the evaporation valve thinking there may be a screw under it but there was not. I do not want to break the original cap because a replacement is $$$. Contacted KTM, they replied by stating that the PowerParts Racing Fuel Cap is compatible with the 2020 SDR but their instructions are not correct and the bike should be taken to the dealer for installation, that is is not going to happen, for a number of reasons. Any assistance would be appreciated.

So true! 🤣

I’ve since had my tank off the KTM, cutting the gas pipe from the tank will result in zero gas draining out. The FI pump needs to run to get gas out the tank I think.

So now the easiest solutions are siphon it out, assuming a nice non-locking cap, or punch a hole in it with a screw driver.

Well I was being more sarcastic about it than serious. I personally have been riding for over 40 years and purchase my bikes based on what I want and the newest tech packages that suit me, I like the advancement in electronic rider aids, which is one of the reasons why I purchased a SDR. When I read about replacing the locking cap with a non locking one because of the belief it may not always work etc,, well then you better get rid of that electric front steering lock while your at it. Don't get me started on the key fob, that's like witch craft lol. My point is that this bike was engineered by some of the best in the business with excellent testing and a full load of electronic rider aids to assist the rider. If you purchase an advanced motorcycle like the SDR and you have to worry about the gas cap not opening, well I guess you could add that to a whole list of people with fears about several of the electronic advancements failing, ABS won't work, throttle issues, fuel issues etc, because its all electronic and anything could in fact fail as with any bike, I agree, but personally I embrace the full electronic package of the SDR. Otherwise I would have purchased a Harley and a Trailer to haul it, never have to worry about the gas cap, just unscrew it lol.. Yes I'm an azhole and I"m poking fun but the irony of buying one of the best electronic packages on the market and worrying about the fuel cap amuses me

My F 150 and my wife's Flex don't even have gas caps, just shuttered holes.

I also like the convenience of a screw-in. It's so much simpler than pulling the key, unlocking the cap, then locking it back up and fumbling to get the key back in the ignition (which also wears it out twice as fast, not to mention the clumsy igniton lock location). Before the screw-in, I kept the spare key hidden on the bike to unlock he cap. Still use it to unlock the seat.

The fob is a different discussion because my '16 doesn't have one, therefore I'm clueless other than what fobbers have posted. I always run a tank bag, so onlookers don't even see the cap and if they know the bike, they'll assume it has a stupid locker. Thieves and vandals are usually not high on the I. Q. scale.

And I rarely use the fork lock. Goons could still pick it up and shove it in a van or truck with the fork locked. When I travel, I carry an armored cable and lock.

WellI can confirm a 2019 fuel cap will fit a 2021, ordered one for only $40 and it fits perfectly. Had to make new spacers because the ones I had from SW Motech
were way too high with this fuel cap. Made them in aluminum and finished with Cerkote because I still had to spray a gun frame, I immediately did both. This is a
chemical and scratch resistant paint.

The issue for me is vandalism. Would be concerned someone might put something unsavory into my tank.

Before I got a Stout Mount several folks tried to tear my BMW Nav VI with a TourTech locking mount right off my 2017 KTM GT. On one occasion while staying at at a Hoilday Inn someone tried to peel/ rip off all my KTM logo's. The best one was when we caught a HONDA guy screwing a nail into my rear tire at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge. Guess he got tired of me passing him on the Tail of the Dragon?

Best,

Doc
