It locks some period of time after turning off the ignition. It should just be a case of lift the flap to un-latch and open.

 

Alright, I just figured it out ... with anything new, I was too cautious ... I only had to force a little bit more and then POOF gaz cap open

 

Better to be cautious

 

I find that if I push down on the cap while pulling up on the little latch, it makes it easier to open. Sometimes if I just pull up on the latch it is reluctant to open.

 

Yeah, that is what solved it I think

 

The period between you buy the bike...and the dealer gives it to you should be used to read the manual of the bike.


PS...I still have the same problem sometime!...I get scared and I think "...and now?"

 

Right geared up set oot 5 min run to fuel stop. Flip kill ignition while TFT is on and no way will cap release. With fuel reserve on go back home and fiddle with it some more but no luck. Filled this bike numerous times no problem. Now will just not open. Anyone have any tricks. Don't even have enough fuel to ride to dealer. Ugh. Still luv the bike though.

i have actually never seen a gas cap tethered on a bike...never lost one either. Take it off fill with gas put it on...

 

Lost one off a car once, but no worries: you can buy a replacement just about anywhere. But that's for a car.

 

Just bought a brand new Super duke 1290r and guess what happened... I had difficulties opening the tank. Found this treat and figured that I was to scared as it was new... and then I broke small plastic thing the you push in order the open the tank

 

One of the first things I do with a new bike is to swap the stupid locking gas cap for one of these;





Sounds like the e-locking caps are even a bigger PITA than the old, key-lock caps.

 

I'm definitely getting something like that. Question: Is that stays open (not locked) whole time, regardless of electronic lock of the bike, ignition status etc? thx!

 

It's a screw-in cap. No lock, no electronics to screw up. Not sure if your bike will throw a code over a gas cap change. Must be a dongle somewhere.
