Q's is the electronic removal of spark to the motor . It allows the gearbox to unload and therefore make the gear so it can slide into the next ...

Simple Q's is spark cut but some Q's have a fuel trim to accomplish an even cleaner shift....
Anything else?

You probably just need to manually disable the stock qs and use an editable Q's like healtech ora Piggy back plug in ecu that offers Q's with fuel trim...

was told if you interrupt the spark on a KTM the key has to be cycled leaving you lost at the starting line
I never heard what your saying . But I'm just talking about the Q's function . If you use the air shifter I'm sure you will want to fine tune the Q's timing ...

With Q's theory .
I believe it goes like this ...
The volume of fuel and size of motor determine what you can get away with...

Historical evidence like 2 stroke dirt bikes. Low spinning mass ,low volume ... Just bump down the throttle a little for straight shifting ...

Now picture a large volume of air fuel mix and heavy motor internals ... Spark cut needed ..
To get the best after that would be to trim the fuel cycle so no big unburnt Charge goes down the headers..
