FX & XC are great bikes BUT are not good for slow technical riding because there gear box flame outs are a big issue. Imo I’d go the 450excf, Iv owned all the KTMs and I think the 350 is the most over rated bike. Have you given much thought of the 300tpi ??

Hope this helps, good luck with your decision, safe riding [emoji106]

oh darn so when you say box flames out, you mean stall at slow speeds?

So am I better getting the FE350 or EXC-F350?

As for the other stuff...i plan on doing 90% trail 10% for trail hopping. Some days will just be 100% dirt other days will be 70% dirt 30. but if anything requires long distance road, ill use my DRZ instead.

just now looking for an actual dirtbike that I can hop on the road when I do need it.

FE350 can hit 70 75 mph with me. im happy with it onroad im not sure how it handles on enduro/rocky slow type of riding and climbs (colorado rocks everywhere) I can also street legal anything

2 strokes I was considering but mixing oil when im out exploring might be an issue.

As far as EXC-F 450...actually saw 1 on the highway the other day going to a trail by denver CO im guessing haha. Is this a capable bike for what I want to do? enduro/rocks/climbs with ruts/rocks/logs with some single track in between?

the 500 EXC-F? seen a few of those in passes in CO and FE501. is a 500EXCf good for what I want to do? i consider myself in great shape. I ride for about 7 hours straight on a drz or klx. gym everyday..so I think a 500 EXCF would be ok?

Yes FX & XC are bad for flame outs at slow speed, there are built for going fast on flat track, not for doing slow technical riding.

2018 - 2019 / 300tpi no mixing fuel any more bro. Best all round bike ever built imo.

450 or 500 are great bikes if your as fit as you same, they will feel like a push bike compared to your DRZ.

450 or 500 enduro, Can't go wrong I reckon.

Personally I was going to go with the 500 as I initially wanted a bike for a little more on road and dirt roads.

I never considered the 450 as they are basically the same weight as the 500 and tge 500 would have more punch, but the 450 is still going to go hard. Both good choices.

300tpi should be a good thing as well. I have a couple mates with them. Strangely enough one of them is a brilliant bike to ride where as the other is a pig. I am guessing they may have 2 different maps loaded into them.

I can't afford one and I was also going to wait a couple years until they had 3 or 4 models of the tpi out before I look at one.

The 450 & 500 weigh the same , but surprisingly the engines are very different, 450 revs very hard compared to the 500 because it’s got a shorter stroke where as the 500 pulls like a tractor with just a touch of the throttle, you do have to work a little harder on the 450, 350 is guts less imo.

My 2018 300tpi was a awesome bike, I’m currently on the 2019 250tpi and really enjoying this little weapon.[emoji108]

thanks man!! I might check these out!! ive been looking at the TPI also. is TPI a good mixture between slow technical riding, fast flowy trails and high speed trail hopping? i can street legal 2 stroke in Colorado and saw it has an oil reservoir that it automatically mixes oil for you. either 300tpi or 250tpi

my main thing is, say i want to go down the street (from a trail head im at) like 60 70mph for a short time 10 - 20 mins? is TPI also good for this

or am I better just putting a rekluse on a EXCF at this point?

Definitely no problems in doing hwy riding, I would recommend the 300tpi for your requirements.

The 250tpi & 300tpi come standard with 14-52 , I run 13-52 only because most of my riding is technical single tracks, for you id keep the 14-52 Sprockets on, best ratio for all mix of riding terrain.

thanks so much man!! im really digging the TPI! I might go this route. Man if it can do some highway speeds when I do need it, this is indeed the perfect bike!! i do have wide open dirt trails also where I hit 50 - 60mph out in tarryall, CO. Yeah! might leave it at 14/52 see how it is. My drz400E is at 15/38 and honestly Ive gotten so used to clutch control on slow tight moving. Could be I also follow my buddy a lot on his quad when rock crawling so ive gotten so used to slow riding as well. He is a good buddy of mine that used to ride bikes, but his left hand is messed up from a stroke.

may I ask what are the service intervals for oil changes and valve adjustments

No values mate
Gear box oil 800ml - the book says every 40hours I think, I drop mine every 10hours only because my clutch gets a good work out.
One thing I can promise you if you have never ridden a tpi, you will fall in love how smooth these bikes are, you will never ride your drz again, lol

No need to ride a 2 smoke to see if she buzz’s. Your smoker is not well suited for street or highway unless you like punishment. The only time those are happy and smooth is when you are screaming them. And they vibrate at any speed. You will need the biggest 4 stroke you can lift off the ground. You’re off to a good start but most dealers don’t like to offer individual test rides on off road or dual sport stuff unless it’s in their parking lot. Not too many dealers offer rides unless it’s factory sponsored ride day. Some KTM dealers still offer those. You can call around and ask. Or look for a rider with the bike you are interested in and ask for feedback. Most guys would allow you to take a ride, unless you looked like a hippie or something like that:surprise:

Hey mate I’m not being rude But have you ridden a tpi bike, no vibration at all , in fact they are smother then my 2018 350excf and 2018 450excf , KTM have taken tpi Bikes to the next level.

hey all so I rode the EXC-F 350 and it was a little buzzy but nothing I couldnt get used to. Then I road a gasgas 2 stroke from 2012 and holy hell that thing was buzy as hell.

I was wondering if the newer TPIs are buzy like that since they are 2 stroke? sadly dealer wont let me try them

Mate you can’t compare a 2012 Gasgas to a ktm tpi , I wouldn’t go near a Gasgas or Beta, mates that have owned these 2 brand bikes have sold them after 6 months and bought TPIs, and are very pleased .
