rough mock up of the mounting position of the Hepco and Becker Orbit cases. Need to fine tune before I finalize it. Started on the exhaust side to ensue it out of the exhaust blast. Hopefully the tail subframe is symmetrical so I can easily complete the other side.

Well with Covid and the colder weather, I’ve been able to fabricate some brackets that I’ll have reinforced, cleaned up and panted. A bit of a pain to fabricate but I’m going to be happy with the end result. The brackets are a lot lighter than what Hepco provides but more importantly they fit cleanly to the bike (much closer) rather then sticking out a few more inches.

I had to notch the metal to get the sharp bends - I’ll have a friend fillet weld the joints to add strength.

I also need to order up some stainless spacers from McMaster Carr.

You folks with the 2020 SDR are so lucky with the very clean mounting systems available from powerparts.

@2cati That’s looks great. Taking notes. I’m working on a hard case mounting solution for my 990R. I found that the Hepco Becker pannier rack from a BMW R1200R is dangerously close and can be made to work with some slight modifications and a fabbed top mounting bracket. I’m planning to create a thread showing the project...when I actually get to it.

Finally fine tuned the fit and painted the homemade brackets.

I now can use just the cowl with the side bags or replace it with the sport rack and add my topcase!
I now have 22L (per side case) + 33L when the top case is attachéd - all lockable/waterproof. I’m really happy with the result — each side has 4 solid mounting points and the c-bow mounts are as tight to the bike as possible making for a sleek look. It was time consuming but good therapy during these strange times.

How was the mounting for the sport rack as I read a weird review saying it didnt come with anything yo attach it and that you had to cannibalize the passenger pillion.
That’s strange as my sport rack (I believe it fits 2014-2019) came complete - never had to cannibalize anything. Besides, I cannot see how any parts from KTM would fit or be appropriate as the Hepco stuff is incredibly strong/overbuilt. What model year bike are you referring to?

This is a photo of what my sport rack looked like from underneath - you can see that this is very seriously built steel brackets. Nothing from the pillion seat will work here.
