Motocrosser can be trail ridden but there are better options. I have many, many trail miles and races won on motocross bikes ridden in off road events. Motocrossers like to be ridden more aggressively than enduro tuned machinery, but that doesn't exclude their usage for trail riding. I rode CR250 in motocross and Hare Scrambles without adding anything except an auxiliary fuel tank. You can make changes to your SX to suit your usage. I'm a firm believer in testing and evaluation before any changes are made. If you find suspension rattles your teeth when trail riding and adjusting clickers won't sort it, you may need revalve. If power delivery is too sharp, try PV tuning and ignition map tuning. Some riders (me) don't find SX gearbox ratios too bothersome for trail riding. Many of the motocross specific settings can be overcome or overlooked by some conditions and rider preferences. Test ride your bike in your conditions and terrain and decide what works for you.

I'm in agreement with @Road_Clam on suitability of a 125 for trail usage. I rode many different size bikes and tested many bikes in race and practice and trail riding in many types of terrain and found 250 smoker was best all around trail weapon. I had the ability to select nearly any off road bike from my showroom floor during my racing years and usually ran 250s. I used 125-200cc smokers for certain nasty gnarly mud crusted frozen/low traction hare scrambles and used big bore 250s converted to 280cc to race open class motocross when conditions warranted, but my go-to all around favorite was/is still the 250 smoker.
