Put the 42 on today, went on fine after flipping the blocks. First ride tomorrow with the new gearing.
Gokes , do you mind if we merge your sprocket thread into the bigger sprocket thread?

Oh very interesting. Just did about 150 miles through mountain twisties and I like it. It's not world chaning, but it just lets you be in the optimal gear more often, and get more power down exiting corners.

Recommend.

Also finally experienced a couple of these mythical 3rd gear wheelies coming over bumps on acceleration.

Put the 42 on today, went on fine after flipping the blocks. First ride tomorrow with the new gearing.

Sure no worries

related question... I got a new rear (46, keeping stock front) and hence a new chain, the chain came with a clip type master link. I know these are considered "ok" for dirt bikes, but is it safe to use on a duke?

thanks.
-Andrew

Yeah but...I wouldn't. It's a very torquey bike with lots of vibrations. Chances are it will be fine for the life of the chain, but a rivet master link is a few dollars and any moto shop should have them in stock. Worth the peace of mind. You can fit a rivet master link on your chain. Throw the clip on for now (if you can even get it on. I hate those f.ucking things so much) and go get a rivet style.

will do. Thanks

I went 16/42, flipped the adjusters and called it a day. Stock bike instantly powered up in 2nd. Clutch up in second feel like first on my grom. Cruise 80 on the highway all day. Great on my 2nd track day too. This is the perfect balance between stock and Boldor's settup

END OF DISCUSSION>:)

Chain slack spec in manual seems very small... 5mm / .25" with the bike on a swingarm stand. Is that correct?
No, the manual lies to you. Don't believe anything it says. :hang:

Yes it's correct.

I guess part of it is that there is not that much travel in the rear end (compared to dirt bikes) and the resting position of the swingarm with it on the swingarm stand is almost level.

I do understand the chain is always tightest on any bike when the countershaft, swingarm pivot and rear axle are all in a line. Any other position, the slack increases.
